BLUEFIN TUNA FISHING IN CORNWALL

If you have got this far it sounds like you have done your homework already.

We are fully licensed by the UK government to catch and release Bluefin Tuna.

Our Bluefin Tuna fishery here in Cornwall is by far the best in UK and definitely the right location for your best chance of catching that special fish of a lifetime.

Currently, to date, we have landed well over 250 giant Bluefin Tuna with almost all of them being tagged and released for scientific research.

So what’s our biggest and best catch.

In 2021 our biggest was 113 inches calculations put it at around 900-1000lb that was the largest Bluefin Tuna caught for science that year and I believe the record still stands.

This year also seen us break another UK record of catching and tagging 13 Bluefin Tuna in one day something that was never thought possible and all witnessed by an onboard CEFAS observer which was a requirement of our license at the time.

I have been heavily invested from the very moment the Bluefin Tuna first arrived back in Cornwall and the UK nearly 8 years ago and my passion for catching and understanding the science of these magnificent fish has grown ever since. Having landed some of the biggest Tuna ever recorded in the UK and our personal best being a staggering 113” just highlights what great size fish we have here in Cornish waters and we have had many many fish over the magic 100” number.

To date, we have caught in excess of 800 bluefin, with many days seeing us land multiple fish, and our seasonal average is a respectable 3.5 fish per day.

We pride ourselves on strictly stand-up fishing, using correctly sized gear that suits the fish and nothing more. Myself and crewman Neal will ensure you get the very best from your day, and you will clearly see the level of professionalism and quality from the moment you step aboard. We really do go the distance—and the miles—to find the fish and ensure you get the most out of your experience.

Having great sponsors like Shimano ensures that every season we have the very latest top-of-the-range equipment, with the new Stella 25000 and Talica 50s being this season’s reels of choice. AFTCO ensures we have the very best fighting harnesses and belts, as we pride ourselves on giving you the very best stand-up experience. You really do not need to look any further, as we offer the very best bluefin tuna fishing experience, based in the outstanding locations of Penzance and Falmouth, Cornwall.

Please feel free to give me a call or drop me a message if you have any questions — always keen to talk tuna.

So recently we have been on a crazy run of Giant Tuna and not really intentionally but you can only fish to what’s in front of you.

With these big fish the fight time is sometimes extremely long or longer than would hope for and it’s my opinion that providing the fish are given plenty of time to recover before releasing then the fish is perfectly fine and goes off really strong so no harm done.

Here is a video of one of the big ones from this week that we recovered from a long fight and as you will see how strong it is and how it’s swimming ahead of the boat upright full of life.

We take great care with all our fish and as always, the longer the fight the longer the recovery.

You will also get a better idea of the size as sometimes the camera just doesn’t do them justice.

Neal shouting the gunnels are flexing 😂 quality as always.

We had another Giant today which is possibly our biggest ever yet so will put a post up soon.

🔥🔥🔥BIG BONI

🔥🔥🔥BIG BONITO 🔥🔥🔥

Are we witnessing a start of a new fishery in its early stages.

With warming sea temperatures and scientists predicting that we could see new species arriving this will certainly be a good one as there great sport on light jigging gear.

Wow this a first for us and hope it continues.

We have finally arri

We have finally arrived safely in Falmouth today ready for our second half of the Tuna season.

Today mother nature was in full swing and our plan to get around into falmouth bay early this morning didn’t quite go to plan.

We departed Newlyn at 6:30am and the minute we left the harbour you could just sense that the sea had some serious movement and power which is not something we normally get to much of in the bay.

After steaming for 45 minutes and getting closer the Lizard it started to feel like this was not going well and the sea was just getting bigger and bigger and when i say big i mean big and probably some of the biggest swells i have been in and i have been in a few.

A old skipper once told me what makes a good skipper and he said,a good skipper knows when to turn around, this has always stayed with me and with that in mind we turned around before getting to the point where turning around wouldn’t have been a option.

Feeling small on Bluefin is not something i am use to but today was an experience and mother nature is not to be messed with that’s for sure.

We ended up waiting a few hours until low water slack and passed the lizard a little easier but not with out still tackling some serious sea conditions.

Maybe the recent events at sea just give us all a little reminder how dangerous it is out there and we should never take the sea for granted.

As ever it was great working out of Newlyn and the commercial tuna guys that work out of there are great and professional guys who it’s been a pleasure working along side.

The staff at the harbour equally as professional and always helping out when needed and so welcoming 🙌

Looking forward now to phase 2 and joining the falmouth fleet.👌🐟🐟🐟
